Australian recording artist and producer Perto has introduced himself with the release of “jester”. The new single is available globally, serves as Perto’s first release on Columbia Records, and arrives alongside an official video.
The track illuminates his knack for genre-shifting and his gleeful disregard for the rules. Glitchy beat-craft underlines glossy synths perfectly suited to either the dancefloor or a high-speed midnight drive. Meanwhile, his unpredictable cadence carries a chantable hook as he confesses, “I enjoyed it in the moment.”
Directed by Izzy Rael, the fashion forward accompanying video proves equally unpredictable. Shots of blowtorches, street racers, and dirt bikes set the tempo as grainy footage finds Perto flexing as the “jester” of his own bozo kingdom.
Regarding “jester”, he offered, “I loved making this song — it’s about girls and boys being weird and being thrown into a lifestyle I wished for but it not actually being that fucking fantastic. Also shouts out to Wong Kar-wai. I totally ripped a lot of the visuals from Fallen Angels.”
Despite being only 21 years old, Perto has accomplished a lot – starting with his teenage years as a sought-after collaborator by everyone from Billie Eilish and Timbaland in the studio and Skrillex on tour. Simultaneously, he has set some of Australia’s hottest stages ablaze as a headliner. Using an anonymous pseudonym, he gained traction on Soundcloud with millions of streams and found fans in the likes of Glaive and Aldn. Due to a fashion sense as inimitable as his sound, he’s also notably been spotted with Rick Owens and Matthew Williams, while GQ Australia hailed him among the “50 Most Stylish Men In Music.” Beyond acclaim from i-D and The Guardian, he’s attracted a devout audience clamoring for new music, and he finally delivers with “jester” and more to come soon.
