When renowned American-Nigerian entrepreneur Olufunke Agunbiade and her husband Dr. Babajide, an oil tycoon and leading subsea production expert, were crowned the YeyeAsiwaju and Asiwaju of Fiditi town in Oyo State, it was a joyous occasion for the town of Fiditi in Oyo State. It is also well known that Olufunke Agunbiade serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Midas Global Services. The influential woman, together with her husband, who resides in Houston, Texas, in the United States, was recognized by His Royal Highness, Oba OyelereOyewole, the Onifiditi of Fiditi town, in a vibrant celebration that was appropriate of royalty. The royal ceremony took place in the town of Fiditi.
The royal father bestowed this distinction onto the influential couple known as the Agunbiades in recognition of their many selfless acts of philanthropy that have contributed to the growth of their community and their unwavering devotion to the advancement of their homeland. After Fiditi had been without a king for 13 years, Agunbiades played a significant part in ensuring that the town would have a traditional ruler in the year 2021. Oba Amos Ogunkunle, the city’s previous traditional king, died way back in the year 2008. The town was deprived of the privilege of having a king for an extended length of time as a result of a struggle for the monarchy of the town as well as negligence on the part of prior administrations.
The coronation of a new king, however, took place in 2021 as a direct result of Agunbiade’s influence and involvement. In addition to their new titles as the YeyeAsiwajuand Asiwaju of Fiditi land, the entrepreneur and herhonorable husband were also crowned the YeyeAtobaase and Atobaaseof Yorubaland in 2021 by the late Alaafin of Oyo State, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi amidst pump and pageantry in Oyo State.
