For artist Disdazie, born David Matney, success no longer feels like a distant dream. After years of refining his craft, the rising musician says the past year has brought the biggest shift of his career, most notably, in his confidence.
“I finally believe I can really do this,” Matney says. “The dream seems way more tangible now.”
That renewed belief has transformed the way he approaches his music. What once felt like an ambitious goal now feels attainable through relentless work, unwavering faith, and patience. It’s a mindset that has fueled his creativity and reinforced his commitment to becoming the artist he has always envisioned. One can hear this in the evolution of his tracks like Mozart BIH, to his debut project, Seasons.
Disdazie focuses on understanding what resonates with listeners while remaining authentic to his own voice.
“You have to be unique enough where people see you as an original artist but also familiar enough that people can relate to your sound,” he explains.
Matney’s philosophy is rooted in discipline. Nearly every day, he creates demo recordings to sharpen his abilities while constantly studying music from artists he admires. Every song becomes an opportunity to learn, whether it’s a melody, a cadence, or a songwriting technique, and then reinterpret those influences through his own creative lens.
Behind that confidence is a deeply personal foundation grounded in faith. Before beginning an ambitious album project with his longtime friend and producer, Rhett, Matney admits he was intimidated by the challenge of creating his first cohesive body of work. Rather than letting doubt dictate the process, he turned to prayer, asking God to help him create the best music of his career.
That prayer became a defining moment.
From then on, every recording session carried greater purpose. Looking back, he credits that season of dedication with producing the strongest work he has ever created.
Now, Disdazie believes he has fully settled into the sound he’s been searching for.
“This next phase is the real sound of Disdazie,” he says.
Rather than reinventing himself, he’s focused on steadfastly continuing to refine his songwriting, strengthen his artistry, and release music that reflects both his growth and his vision. David Matney is entering a chapter that feels less like the pursuit of success and more like the beginning of something built to last.
