Lamarr Returns to His Roots With Powerful New Single “Back On Tha Ave”

Independent hip-hop artist Lamarr is taking listeners back to where it all began with his latest single, “Back On Tha Ave.” More than just another release, the record represents a defining moment in his artistic journey—a track created to prove something not only to his audience, but to himself.

While working on an upcoming album, Lamarr found himself reflecting on the direction of his music. As he reviewed his catalog, he noticed a pattern that inspired him to make a significant change.

“I wanted to prove I could make a rap single,” Lamarr explains. “Most of my singles were me singing, and the only rap single I really had was a freestyle.”

That realization sparked a creative reset. Lamarr recognized that many of his previous releases leaned on remakes rather than completely original concepts. Instead of continuing down the same path, he challenged himself to build something fresh from the ground up.

The result was “Back On Tha Ave,” a record that embraces sharp lyricism, confidence, and authenticity while paying tribute to the place that helped shape his identity.

The song also arrives alongside an important milestone in Lamarr’s career: the launch of his own independent label, Tha Ave Records. Named after Bellwood Avenue—the neighborhood he has called home since infancy—the label represents far more than a business venture. It serves as a symbol of his roots, his community, and the foundation that continues to influence his music today.

“I started Tha Ave Records because Bellwood Ave. has been home since I was a baby.”

By naming both his label and one of his newest records after the place that raised him, Lamarr reinforces the deep connection between his personal story and his artistic vision.

Heading into the recording session, Lamarr already had most of “Back On Tha Ave” written. His focus was clear: create rap records with minimal singing and push himself beyond his comfort zone.

During that session, he recorded multiple songs and verses, with nearly every performance centered around straight lyricism. It marked a deliberate shift in his creative approach and demonstrated his commitment to growing as an artist.

“I challenged myself to get better, and I believed it paid off.”

Helping bring that vision to life was engineer Tylertaz, whose attention to detail helped polish the record into the final version listeners hear today. Together, they crafted a song that captures Lamarr’s renewed confidence while highlighting his evolution as both a rapper and songwriter.

Despite the excitement surrounding “Back On Tha Ave,” Lamarr admits that recent personal events have shifted his priorities. Someone very close to him had been battling cancer, and their passing has left him grieving.

“I haven’t been focusing on music recently… someone close to me was battling cancer. He lost yesterday, so I’m distraught about it.”

The heartbreaking loss has understandably delayed plans for his upcoming project, leaving its release timeline uncertain. Still, Lamarr remains hopeful that fans will hear the full body of work later this year when the time feels right.

Through triumph, reflection, and personal hardship, “Back On Tha Ave” stands as one of Lamarr’s most meaningful releases to date. It represents growth, resilience, and the willingness to embrace change while staying connected to the place that made him who he is. As Tha Ave Records begins its journey and Lamarr continues to refine his craft, this latest single serves as a powerful reminder that the strongest music often comes from life’s most honest moments.
