For emerging pop artist Pia Baris, music has never been a passing interest. It has been a constant presence throughout her life, shaping her identity long before she began releasing her own songs. Now, with the arrival of her debut EP stardust, Baris offers listeners the clearest expression yet of who she is as both a songwriter and performer.
The six-track project blends introspective lyricism, layered vocal arrangements, and polished contemporary pop production, introducing an artist whose sound feels both deeply personal and broadly relatable. While stardust marks a new chapter in Baris’ career, the foundations of her artistry have been years in the making.
Born and raised in Frankfurt, Baris developed her musical abilities from an early age. At just ten years old, she joined the Frankfurt Opera, where she would go on to perform in more than 150 productions before later spending two years as a soprano soloist. Alongside her extensive stage experience, she earned a scholarship to Dr. Hoch’s Conservatory, further strengthening her classical training while nurturing an interest in contemporary songwriting.
Her creative background extends beyond singing. A pianist since the age of six, Baris also trained in ballet and hip-hop, experiences that continue to influence both her artistic perspective and live performances. This diverse foundation has helped shape a style that balances technical precision with emotional authenticity.
Writing primarily in English despite growing up bilingually, Baris has always approached her music with an international outlook. She began releasing original material as a teenager, steadily building experience through live performances, television appearances, and support slots for established artists. After graduating from school and relocating to Berlin, she committed fully to pursuing music professionally—a move that would eventually lead to the creation of stardust.
At its core, the EP is a reflection on the uncertainty and emotional complexity that often accompany early adulthood. Across six tracks, Baris explores themes of self-discovery, heartbreak, intimacy, emotional dependency, and personal growth. The songwriting feels honest without becoming overly confessional, drawing on personal experiences while leaving space for listeners to connect their own stories to the music.
One of the defining characteristics of stardust is its vocal production. Influenced by her years singing in choir settings, Baris uses harmonies as more than just accompaniment. Her layered vocals create rich, atmospheric textures that add depth and emotion throughout the project. Combined with vivid imagery and thoughtful lyricism, the result is a collection of songs that feel immersive and cinematic while maintaining a sense of intimacy.
The EP opens with “i know,” a reflective track inspired by Baris’ move to Berlin and the emotional uncertainty that came with starting over in a new city. Themes of loneliness, self-doubt, and belonging run through the song, capturing a moment of transition where growth and vulnerability coexist.
“picket fence” follows with a poignant look at a relationship that appears ideal on the surface but ultimately cannot survive. Rather than dwelling on loss, the song finds strength in acceptance, exploring the difficult process of choosing self-worth over unrealistic expectations.
Elsewhere, “silhouette” examines the lingering presence of a past relationship, exploring how memories can remain vivid even after someone has left. The track’s dreamy production complements its themes of distance, longing, and imagination, creating one of the EP’s most atmospheric moments.
A shift in energy arrives with “machete,” which introduces a more playful and self-assured perspective. Built around an infectious pop foundation, the track explores emotional boundaries and self-preservation with confidence and clarity.
“dangerous mind” delves into the allure of unpredictable relationships, capturing the tension between attraction and caution. It is one of the project’s more emotionally complex moments, highlighting Baris’ ability to navigate darker themes without losing the melodic accessibility that defines her sound.
The EP closes with “complex,” a thoughtful examination of emotional dependency and the challenges of maintaining a sense of self within a relationship. Told from an observational perspective, the song serves as a fitting conclusion to the record’s broader exploration of identity, connection, and personal growth.
With stardust, Pia Baris delivers a debut that feels both carefully crafted and emotionally genuine. The project showcases a songwriter capable of pairing vulnerability with strong pop sensibilities, while offering an early glimpse into an artistic voice that already feels well defined. As she continues to establish herself on an international stage, stardust stands as a compelling introduction to an artist whose story is only just beginning.
