There’s a difference between a band posting a new song and a band actually putting something into motion. MegaDestroyer feels like the second kind. Their new track “STEAM” isn’t dressed up with fake mystique or padded out with industry fluff. It’s a strong new single, a cool-looking video, and a band from Omaha putting their first real marker in the ground.
That’s the kind of thing people in DIY and regional scenes notice, because you can tell when a group is serious by how they move. Colin Moore has said the song grew out of years of struggle, obsession with science, and the shift that came from rebuilding his life through learning.
More importantly, they’re not dragging one single out for six months and pretending it’s a career. More songs are being worked up, shows are getting lined up, and that’s the right move. Release the track, hit the stage, keep it going. This is a new band that I plan to follow.
