Born Justin Lawson in Compton, YS is the newest rising talent from the home of Kendrick Lamar, YG and Roddy Ricch. Raised by his Southern-bred grandparents, the 25-year-old first developed his love for rapping at the age of 13. He began recording tracks known for their colorful gang-banging references, drawing inspiration from his everyday street life. By 19, he released bonafide hit, “Bompton,” a hard-hitting Trayvon Jackson-produced hometown anthem that scored neighborhood recognition and caught the attention of Alamo Records. Later, a remix of the viral smash — aided by features by 1TakeJay, Shoreline Mafia’s Ohgeesy and Fredo Bang — ushered in YS’s 13-track debut project, Street Dreams. Songs such as “Real From The Start” offer a vivid glimpse of his world and the promising skill of his melodic wordplay, a page taken from his greatest musical influence Lil Wayne. While he works on forthcoming musical outputs and grows as an artist, he plans to offer a window into the softer, more soulful side of his tough persona.
West Coast rap don in the making, YS, is back with the Deluxe Version of his highly praised album Blood, Sweat & Tears, out now via OTR Records. If the original project was a declaration of war, this deluxe is him spinning the block — louder, harder, and soaked in all the pain, triumph, and hustle it took to get here.
YS is a Compton young gun, but stamped across the entire West Coast rap scene, YS raps like every bar is a life-or-death testimony. Blood, Sweat & Tears (Deluxe) is exactly that: the soundtrack to sacrifices made in the shadows, homies lost too soon, and wins that feel like they came against impossible odds. From gritty street narratives to motivational anthems, this deluxe delivers new records that elevate YS’s already undeniable catalog.
The deluxe adds fresh heat that further cements YS as one of Compton’s sturdiest newest voices, bridging street credibility with mainstream-ready artistry. Each track is laced with that relentless hunger and raw honesty fans have come to expect from him, while pushing the sound forward with polished production and guest appearances that bring extra firepower.
With Blood, Sweat & Tears (Deluxe), YS proves that his rise isn’t a fluke — it’s destiny. This is rap excellence, wrapped in bars, delivered with Compton conviction.
Blood, Sweat & Tears (Deluxe) is available now on all streaming platforms.
