Kicking off a new creative chapter, critically acclaimed Canadian singer, songwriter, and guitarist Leith Ross (They/Them Pronouns) is back today with a new single entitled “Grieving” out now via Republic Records. Produced by GRAMMY Award-winning artist, producer, and songwriter Rostam, “Grieving” serves as Ross’ first release in two years since their Juno Award-nominated debut album To Learn and paves the way for their highly anticipated sophomore album, due out later this year.
On the song, folksy acoustic guitar accompanies Leith’s emotionally charged vocals. Opening up about their grandfather’s passing, they deeply reflect with honest and heartfelt lyrics. The track’s momentum builds to a confessional chorus as they admit, “I never will stop grieving, grief is all I have of love.” Inspired by classic Wes Anderson films, the video sees Leith and friends present a living wake for themselves, celebrating life, love, and friendship. “Grieving” heralds more music to come very soon.
Leith shares, “‘Grieving’ has been a special song to me for a long time, but even unrelated to the song, the concept has taken root in my life in a monumental way. It has changed a lot for me, and I hope it can change something for someone else.”
Following the viral success of their singles “We’ll Never Have Sex” and “(You) On My Arm,” in 2023, Leith unveiled their debut album To Learn and its deluxe version To Learn, More. Released to widespread praise, NME declared them “a voice for their generation” and “Gen Z’s new favorite indie songwriter,” while The FADER described them as “your new obsession.” Thus far, they have impressively amassed nearly half-a-billion streams and counting, in addition to touring with the likes of Lord Huron, Bahamas, Andy Shauf, and Helena Deland, as well as selling out headline shows across the globe.
