Julia Garcia is an actress best known for her role in the Disney series “Sydney to the Max”. Since then, she has delved into many aspects of the industry including producing and writing. Now, Julia is gearing up for her directorial debut with her latest film called “Depiction”. Limitless caught up with Julia in between projects to find out a little more about this film and her career as a whole.
1. Tell us what you are working on right now.
I’m currently working on a film called ‘Depiction’, what’s super exciting is that this will be my directorial debut. I play a girl named Alex who is the kind of person that stays tough although she’s barely hanging on. She struggles with depression and loss. ‘Depiction’ tells a story about love, loss and friendship.
2. How do you prepare for a role?
I always start with the character breakdown and then I analyze the script. All of this gives me perspective as an actor to have an objective on how to proceed. Research and preparation are a big part of my process. Before filming it’s always a collaborative experience with the director and producers to ensure the character fits the direction of the story.
3. What do you love most about acting?
I love telling untold stories, and building a character that bestows an emotional impact. I love the creativity in developing a complex character. Acting gives me the opportunity to move and inspire people.
4. What’s the craziest thing that has happened to you on any set you’ve worked on?
Well this isn’t exactly something that’s happened to me, but on a recent set I had to work with fire. And that was crazy because not only did we have a pyrotechnic guy, the stunt coordinator, the fire Marshall and firemen on standby. It was really crazy trying to control something that’s “uncontrollable” for film. It was a little scary but with all the safety precautions, thankfully everything turned out amazing.
5. What do you hope people will take away from watching your films?
I hope the audience can take away a new perspective that challenges perceptions. I would love for people to be provoked by the stories I tell. If it can spark a conversation or even a debate then I’ve done my job.
6. Why do you think it is important for actors to know all sides of the entertainment business
As an actor, understanding all sides of the business gives career longevity. It also gives you creative control, to ensure your vision is brought to life in the most organic way possible, but honestly for me, it gives me empowerment. Understanding both the front and behind the camera allows me to take control and do things my way without asking for permission.
7. What are your goals for the rest of 2024?
Oh goodness, I have a ton of goals. I am going to continue to push myself creatively and emotionally with my acting roles. I will be building my portfolio and diversifying my work. I’m currently focused on new skill development which I’ll be showcasing my new talents very soon. I’d like to produce at least two more films before 2024 ends.
