The hit television series With Love has officially returned to Prime Video for its second season right in time for the summer. As it is a romantic dramedy centered on siblings Lily Diaz (Emeraude Toubia) and Jorge Diaz (Mark Indelicato) as they navigate big life changes and rely on their equally big family to get them through, this show infuses diversity, love, heartbreak and real life situations that many can relate to. Season 2 follows Lilly’s rollercoaster romance with Santiago (Rome Flynn) and Nick (Desmond Chiam) as they both profess their love for her. Lily soon discovers the importance of self-healing and pouring into oneself by expanding her makeup business and looking into home ownership.
Meanwhile Jorge begins to question whether Henry is the love of his life or a mistake, after meeting Henry’s (Vincent Rodriguez) prideful Texan parents. I asked Indelicato about Jorge’s experience meeting Henry’s parents and he responded: “Henry is the best case scenario of a guy you would want to introduce to your family,” says Indelicato. “Meeting Henry’s parents was more about Jorge’s own insecurities rather than any red flags that Henry was introducing. Oftentimes, our own complexities get in the way. In the first season Jorge was struggling with whether or not his father accepted him having a serious boyfriend and whether that would change the nature of their relationship or not which plays out in season 2.”
Dr. Miles Murphy (Todd Grinnell) and Sol Perez (Isis King) continue to navigate their new relationship as King is a non binary trans person and Grinnell is a father of 1. I spoke to them about things people should consider when entering into a relationship and only one partner has children. Grinnell responded “Really take your time getting to know someone before you introduce them into your child’s life in order to make sure that the person is real and that they will be a willing participant in the child’s life.” In this relationship, he has a child, while King is kidless making her reality a little different than what she was expecting. She expounded upon how her real life experiences helped her bring Sol Perez’s perspective to life.
“For me, being on the other side of that, I have dealt with guys with kids before. There was this one guy who had two kids and he kind of brought them around too soon in our relationship to the point that they were there for everything we did which became too much for me,” said King. I would definitely have to agree with what Todd said, which is make sure it is really real before you bring kids into the equation because you don’t want them to have to deal with the breakup. After witnessing my mom go through breakups I can say if you can wait to introduce your kids to a new relationship, wait until you know the relationship is real.”
As Jorge Diaz Sr. (Benito Martinez), and Beatriz (Constance Marie) figure out what life looks like for them post an affair, you will see the pair reconnecting to ensure the flame of love they have, never dies out.
With “Love” being the raging theme of this series, I had the chance to ask Emeraude Toubia (Lily) what does love look like for her. She responded with a quote she believed to be from the Notebook. “The best love is the kind that awakens the soul, and makes us reach for more, that plants a fire in our heart and brings peace to our mind. Love brings the fire out of you while making you feel calm while inspiring you to reach for more in life.”
