Caring has the gift of making the ordinary feel special! In the words of Michael Jackson “Im starting with the man in the mirror” but in this case the woman! Shelle doesn’t ignore the disenfranchised because she relates to the struggle. After losing her brother to gun violence, her passion for fixing broken homes and healing communities grew to greater heights. Show Me You Care KC is noble and very necessary for the community and we speak with Shelle to learn more about her endeavors.
What is the inspiration behind Show Me You Care KC?
The inspiration behind Show Me You Care KC is the community! I’ve always had a big heart and a Niche for helping people. After loosing my brother in 2019 due to gun violence (John Wilson III aka Cultourzz) everything he would say to me replayed in my head that he would say. “Sis, the city is behind you.”, “You make a great impact with people you encounter.” I came from a single parent home just like other people in the world, I watched my mom run a transportation company from our home for 12+ years. At the age of 10 I learned that business and that’s where my service began in the community. That instilled work ethics, customer service and bonds. Sometimes we don’t know where life will take us and just like anybody else I have faced life some good some bad but in reality its how you over come it.
What is your organization’s mission?
Our organizations mission is to fix broken community systems in the urban community by providing resources for our youth, our homeless community, and our senior citizen communities.
What exactly does the company do?
Our company provides community events, such as back to school events, Christmas community Dinners, Thanksgiving community dinners, sponsoring and assisting high school senior with prom, and community clean ups. We also are big on supporting our peers.
What’s your management style?
Im the “laxed CEO”. But I go hard for my team!!
If you were to go back to the beginning, would you do anything different?
If I was to start over, I would’ve invested in myself more in the beginning. Taken more classes and gained more knowledge. But hey who said you cant learn along the way.
How does your business look different now vs. when you first started?
Business has grown beyond what I imagined. We have gained partnerships with our community businesses and organizations.
What qualities do you think every entrepreneur should possess?
Every entrepreneur should have customer service skills, be humble, and surround themselves around like minded people. Most important they should believe in SELF!
Does Show Me You Care KC have a strategy for identifying areas of improvement and making those changes?
-Show Me You Care KC identifies areas of improvement on a day-to-day basis. We strive on change and improvement which leads us to excellence. We face hiccups just like anyone else, but the improvement comes with learning from mistakes. I don’t believe in failure because its just a learning experience.
What do you think your constituents or beneficiaries would say is the best thing about your organization?
We have fun, we love what we do!!! No one is left behind it doesn’t matter the race, ethnicity, or lifestyle! WE LOVE PEOPLE AND OUR COMMUNITY!!
When did you first know you wanted to be an entrepreneur and what was the point that really made you go for it?
Never imagined! After my first Thanksgiving partnership is what made me go harder for my community and city. If we don’t have US no one else will. I stand firm on it takes a village and without us there is no village! So while I’m here to do so my sole focus is rebuilding our community!
