Meet 23 year old upcoming artist out of Irvington, New Jersey “OttoRxcks”. Otto is known for his catchy songs, fire production & versatile flow. Otto is only 3 years in, but still perfecting his craft as he has a lot more planned for the rest of the year. We got to connect with him & ask him a few questions about his come up so far!
Describe the moment you knew music was going to be permanent for you?
“The moment I knew music was going to be permanent for me was when I went to (TheMixLoft) a studio in Massachusetts with my brother Veli & my cousin Ray. We got high & drunk which led to them having me record in the booth. Ever since then I just knew that music is what I wanted to do.”
Explain how it is in the studio? How do you set the vibe to get started?
“When I’m in the Studio it’s like being in a hyperbolic time chamber in DBZ. When you’re in the booth you’re in your own space, time is still going but you won’t really notice the time going by. I’ll usually smoke before and during the session with whoever I go to the Studio with. Anytime we hit the Studio while we’re working we’ll still be making jokes cracking up to make things fun. Before I record I usually try to find either liquor or hot tea to help my voice. If not I’ll drink water and we’ll be high as hell just recording all night.”
How is it coming up as an artist in New Jersey? How easy is it to connect with other artists or producers?
“I’m not going to lie it’s not easy coming up as an artist in Jersey. Jersey has so much talent, but it’s all divided instead of working and growing together people would rather make it a competition on who’ll make it first. You’ll have people who genuinely care and support you from Day 1 & that’ll put the battery in your back to keep going, but It’s hard to blow up in Jersey. It’s like a dark cloud full of hate and envy but covered with fake love over the state. Majority of people leave and blow up out of state. It’s not hard to connect with artists or producers. The majority of the time every other person you meet is either a artist or producer now.”
If you were to talk to some upcoming artists who just started what would be your top 3 pointers you would give them?
“My top 3 pointers I’ll give to someone who is a upcoming artist is be yourself and live life. You literally only live once, you just have to make sure you enjoy it. Find your sound/voice, when you’re in the studio you want to have people who will tell you your song sucks if it does, because you don’t want a yes man around you. Final is to promote/invest in yourself. If you don’t promote your music how will anyone ever hear your music or even know who you are?”
What would you say is the biggest accomplishment you’ve accomplished so far?
“My biggest accomplishment I’ve accomplished so far is that I was able to release my first project at the beginning of the year “Love Me Now Instead of Later”. It was a 5 song project where I basically introduced myself to the music world officially.”
What are some things you have coming up in the near future?
“My New Ep “Dazed.” Is dropping this upcoming Friday, July 8th it’s a 7 song project. Stay tuned you’ll be left in a Daze.”
