Introducing Rising New York Artist Jae Pierce

“Day to Day” is the debut single from Hip-Hop artist Jae Pierce. A New York City native, Jae has spent years honing his craft as a producer and writer. He debuts with a soulful banger; and lyrics that reflect his journey rising through the streets of his competitive city.

What is your name and what city do you rep?

My name is Jae Pierce and I rep NYC…New York, New York. I was raised in Jamaica, Queens, the Southside section to be exact.

Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?

My latest release is my debut single “ Day to Day “. It’s really a reflection of my journey. Dealing with experiences both in the music business; as well as events that have transpired navigating my way through my competitive city. Everyone wants to win here by any means; and you have to be ready to survive around those willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their version of “winning”. But that extends beyond NYC..everyone is just trying to get theirs, It’s universal..everybody got a day to day.

What is unique about you and your music?

I don’t shy or hide away from my ambitions. I’m here to create timeless music; and motivate those who aren’t afraid of taking some losses; and bouncing back stronger..we’re all motivated by success, but there’s a process to get there. My music is the soundtrack to that “process”.

What shaped your music?

The genesis of what shaped my music is my hometown. I grew up witnessing greatness first hand. New York is the birthplace of Hip-Hop so all the greats from here inspired me; the culture overall..I don’t know life without Hip-Hop. But I’m really passionate about music, I listen to a bit of everything. I got my start behind the scenes as a producer and engineer. I owned a recording studio in Brooklyn for a number of years. So I’ve been blessed to come across and work with different artists from varying genres. And growing up at home, I heard it all!

When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?

At a real young age. I started writing raps in elementary school. Like I said growing up in New York, especially my section..it was kind of inevitable. You’re so close to it. It’s hard not to be influenced by it. But music always drove me, on a level beyond just being a fan or casual listener. There’s been several instances where I completely walked away from music and tried to distance myself to focus on other things..but I always find myself coming back to it..so it just gets to the point where I had to be real with myself and realize either I pursue this, or it’s going to haunt me.

What type of music do you listen to?

I listen to a lot of reggae. Culture and Dancehall. There’s a lot of parallels between Rap and  a sound like dancehall. A lot of talent and hustle coming out of that genre. But honestly a little bit of everything.. a lot of R&B and Soul, Classic Mowtown..I’m inspired by great songwriting.

What inspires you to write music?

What inspires me to write music is knowing the power of words. Words carry a vibration and  have the ability to build or destroy. I want to build people and the world up with my music. It’s about being relatable, but my experiences are mine, and how I handle them, and thus convey them in song can’t be duplicated. Its only one Jae Pierce.

What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?

As cliché as it might sound, music is my main focus right now. Outside of the actual studio process. I’m working on learning the business; creating more material and building a catalog.

Happiness to you is…

Happiness to me is making sure my family is secured. Getting my music heard, connecting with fans, and making a positive impact in someone’s life from my creative work.

What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?

I wish someone would have told me don’t chase perfection. Focus on progression. Whatever it is you want to accomplish, start pursuing it now, there’s no right time like now.

Tell us about your upcoming projects…

I have more songs about to drop! All with crazy visuals! I’m also working on an EP slated for late spring, early summer. Just excited for people to hear. The production is next level, and I’m really pouring myself into the lyrics. I want to give value to the music.
