Nipsey Hussle was one of those artists.
Born Ermias Asghedom in Los Angeles on August 15, 1985, Nipsey turned his experiences growing up in South Central into music that spoke directly to people chasing something bigger. But his vision never stopped at the recording booth. He challenged artists to think about ownership, independence, investment and building something that could outlive a hit record.
That mentality became the foundation of The Marathon.
From Crenshaw and Mailbox Money to the Grammy-nominated Victory Lap, Nipsey created music that felt like motivation with a West Coast soundtrack. Songs like “Grinding All My Life,” “Hussle & Motivate” and “Dedication” weren’t just records—they became anthems for people putting in work when nobody was watching.
And that’s exactly why his birthday deserves to feel like a celebration.

MORE THAN THE MUSIC
Nipsey’s impact on rap wasn’t simply about how he sounded.
