After back-to-back breakout singles, “Cry Again” and “Loveland,” Ross Alan shows no signs of easing off the accelerator. Their latest release, “Backseat Joyride,” arrives as the newest preview of an upcoming summer LP and further cements the artist’s evolution into one of the most distinctive voices working at the intersection of country, disco, and pop.
Timed perfectly for Pride season, “Backseat Joyride” is a rush of heat, desire, and freedom. The track blends country twang with disco shimmer, creating a late-night anthem equally suited to neon-lit dive bars and packed dance floors. Driven by sultry vocals, infectious grooves, and candid storytelling, Ross Alan captures the thrill of reckless attraction without apology or restraint. It’s a song about desire in motion—windows down, music loud, and consequences left somewhere in the rearview mirror.
The single was co-produced by Taylor Morrow of PureGoldBaby and is available now on Spotify, Apple Music, and major streaming platforms. A visually striking music video directed by Dirk Fenstermacher is set for release on June 12, expanding the vibrant world Ross Alan has been building through this new era of music.
While listeners may be tempted to search for deeper symbolism, Ross Alan is refreshingly direct about the song’s inspiration.
“Sure, I could come up with some grand metaphorical explanation for what this song means to my spirit,” they say. “But honestly, I had sex in the backseat of a car and absolutely loved it. Like a lot of people, I was chasing a new experience. The excitement of getting caught, the tension, the release, the sweat—I wanted to capture that feeling in a song.”
They continue: “It’s summer, it’s Pride, and I’ve been working incredibly hard on this record. I needed to put out something that let off a little steam. I wanted ‘Backseat Joyride’ to be a song my fellow out-and-proud queers could throw each other around to all season long.”
For Ross Alan, “Backseat Joyride” represents another step in an artistic transformation that has been steadily unfolding over the past several years. Their 2023 EP, Revelation, marked a turning point, moving away from conventional radio-pop influences in favor of a sound that felt more personal, grounded, and unmistakably their own.
That creative growth has not gone unnoticed. Recently nominated for LA Blade’s 2026 Musician of the Year, Ross Alan has spent the last decade building momentum through a steady stream of releases, collaborations, and increasingly high-profile performances. Along the way, they have worked with producers including Chris Young (Christina Aguilera), Jamie McCardle (olderbrother), and Ivan Fiallos-Zambrano (Jason Derulo), while selling out venues across the country and performing at iconic Los Angeles stages such as The Viper Room, Hard Rock Cafe Hollywood, and Whisky A Go Go.
They have also appeared alongside influential live music platforms including Breaking Sound, GigFinesse, MajorStage, and BigGayParty, further establishing a reputation as a dynamic live performer capable of turning intimate rooms into full-scale celebrations.
Now based in Los Angeles, Ross Alan is preparing for their most ambitious project yet: a country-disco fusion LP scheduled for release in August 2026. If “Cry Again,” “Loveland,” and now “Backseat Joyride” are any indication, the upcoming record won’t just be a new chapter—it may be their boldest statement to date.
