How Azura the Dragon Alchemist of Laserium Established Modern Dragon Alchemy (2014)

Azura DragonFaether, popularly known as The Draconic Priestess, was born Jennie Marie on January 22, 1996, in Denver, Colorado. She relocated to Los Angeles in early childhood, where her father, Danny Neilson, served as Master Laserist for Laserium, the original cosmic laser concert founded by Ivan Dryer. Between 2002 and 2014, within this visual and astronomical environment, DragonFaether developed a structured symbolic model informed by optics, astronomy, and dragon mythology. Her early consolidation of The Draconic Path (2009) for dragon archetypal categorization established the foundational framework. This would later evolve into modern Dragon Alchemy, formally articulated in 2014 as a philosophical discipline of personal transformation.

Dragons have appeared symbolically within alchemical traditions for centuries. The word alchemy itself derives from the Arabic word “al-kīmiyāʾ” during which alchemy began contributing directly to the foundations of early chemistry. Scholars such as Jabir ibn Hayyan in the Islamic Golden Age and later Renaissance figures including Paracelsus contributed significantly to the philosophical and experimental foundations of alchemical thought that later influenced Western scientific traditions. In Daoist alchemical traditions, symbolic language often centered on immortality and the refinement of internal energies through the elixir of life. Medieval European alchemy emphasized the magnum opus, or “Great Work,” frequently expressed through allegories such as the philosopher’s stone. During the Renaissance, the framework of the tria prima with sulfur, mercury, and salt further systematized alchemical inquiry as a proto-scientific precursor to medicinal development.

While draconic imagery appeared in earlier alchemical manuscripts, it functioned primarily as iconography representing transformation or raw unpredictable energy rather than as the central subject of study. Pre-modern alchemy focused on material processes and philosophical inquiry, with dragons serving allegorical roles within broader symbolic systems. Explicitly dragon-centered frameworks did not emerge as standalone systems until the late twentieth century, influenced largely by fantasy media, New Age publishing, and mythical figures such as Merlin from Arthurian legends, rather than a strictly laboratory-based alchemical practice.

In the early twenty-first century, mass-distributed works began presenting dragons through structured formats. The Dragonology series introduced illustrated “dragonological laboratory” environments, while DJ Conway’s Mystical Dragon Magick documented planetary and asteroid correspondences for dragons within New Age publishing. Author Joshua Free circulated dragon alchemy concepts in print and digital media under works such as Merlyn’s Magick: The Wizard’s Secret Notebook and writings associated with the name Mardukite. At the same time, tabletop games such as Dungeons & Dragons and expanding online dragon art communities popularized planetary, zodiacal, and alchemical dragon typologies across broader cultural discourse. Despite this proliferation, a unified and systematically articulated philosophical framework had not yet been formally defined.

Beginning in 2002, within the visual and astronomical environment surrounding Laserium and the Griffith Observatory, DragonFaether’s early conceptual framework began to form. Exposure to large-scale planetary projections, including celestial bodies such as Saturn and the constellation Draco, informed foundational symbolic associations between dragons, planets, and the stars. Following the 2005 discovery of Eris and the subsequent reclassification of planetary bodies, DragonFaether began developing a planetary dragon system structured around thirteen typologies, including exoplanetary, dwarf planets, and planet Earth-based dragon archetypes absent from earlier models.

Between 2013 and 2016, Dragon Alchemy was methodically refined within the Laserium environment. In collaboration with Master Laserist Danny Neilson, DragonFaether tested structured visual and symbolic sequences through invitation-only immersive sessions known as “laser baths,” distinct from the public planetarium performances of standard Laserium shows. Conducted in a controlled, private setting, these sessions enabled systematic framework development prior to public articulation. Archival materials and dated group and individual session records from this period document the progressive consolidation of the system before its release.

Dragon Alchemy was formally articulated in 2014 following documented private development and refinement within the Laserium environment. DragonFaether’s disciplines are distinguished by a consistent thirteen-fold classificatory structure applied across planetary, zodiacal, elemental, and related typologies, forming a distinct numerical architecture within the field. Her designation as founder refers to the structured documentation and articulation of a system emerging from the Laserium environment, preserving the unique intersection of laser projection technology, astronomical symbolism, and dragon mythology that shaped its distinct cultural and philosophical tradition. Increased visibility of dragon-focused alchemical content after 2020 reflects platform expansion rather than system origination. Subsequent reinterpretations have emerged in public circulation but remain distinct from the initial 2014 framework, which predates contemporary short-form platforms optimized for rapid dissemination over long-form structural development.

Today, Dragon Alchemy is situated within the broader documentation of the Neilson Laserium heritage as a symbolic reinterpretation of light science adapted to modern digital culture. It is not presented as a revival of historical alchemy, but as a contemporary perceptual system informed by philosophical traditions, laser technology, and long-term private consolidation. DragonFaether continues to archive primary source materials documenting the framework’s development through the free Dragon Academia Archives on Patreon. Within the Dragon Disciplines founded by Azura DragonFaether, Dragon Alchemy preserves a distinct subcultural philosophy emerging from the unique Laserium environment.
