Returning to Aruba in 1981, he began his formal teaching career at the Aruban School of Music, an early step in his lifelong dedication to music education. He later earned a Bachelor of Arts from Governors State University and a Master of Music in Jazz Performance from the University of Illinois. Freddie’s early professional career began in 1975, performing with resort and hotel orchestras and Latin bands in Aruba. He gained expertise in a wide variety of musical genres, including pop, rock, blues, R and B, Latin music, fusion, and jazz. This breadth of experience not only strengthened his technical abilities but also informed his approach as an educator, allowing him to guide students in exploring multiple musical styles and finding their own voice.
