Che Drops “REST IN BASS: ENCORE”

Che keeps his sound authentic in a world plagued by synthetics. The teenage Atlanta rapper’s diaristic songwriting blends with a chaotic sound that gives voice to a generation of brain rotting memes and post-pandemic hedonism, each production choice crafting a visceral experience that mirrors his inner psyche. He’s proven such with maximalist anthems that have found major success across streaming platforms such as the breakout angelic hit “agenda” (112M+ Streams), a winding tale of the ups and downs of young lust. Other songs, like the hedonistic party anthem “Miley Cyrus” (18M+ Streams), exude confidence and swagger, as Che details a rager that sounds straight out of Project X. His ability to tap into the zeitgeist has led to multiple positive reviews from Pitchfork, a spot on No Bells Best Internet Rap of 2023 list, and a distinction of best new artist of 2022 from Pigeons & Planes. He’s also caught the attention of the Internet’s biggest music influencers, landing interviews with Masked GorillaPlaqueBoyMaxOur Generation Music and On The Radar. At the young age of 19, Che has only just begun to scratch the surface of his potential, as he meticulously tweaks his sound with the obsession of a perfectionist.

Following the release of his critically-acclaimed sophomore album REST IN BASS (8.3Pitchfork) and its subsequent sold-out 16-stop tour, Che has just shared the highly-anticipated REST IN BASS: ENCORE – out now. Adding 14 songs to the original effort, the deluxe dives deeper into the most exciting sound of the year: blown-out, bass-heavy rage rap pioneered by Che. The only added feature comes from OsamaSonChe‘s contemporary-rap counterpart and close collaborator – on “WHIPPIN”. The project arrives on the heels of a busy fall for Che: following the release of REST IN BASS in July, he embarked on the Rest In Bass Tour, performing 16 sold-out shows across the country, capped off by an appearance at Yeat’s headlining set at ComplexCon alongside xaviersobased. The original release of REST IN BASS was instantly met with critical acclaim upon release, being met with praise from the likes of The FADERHypebeast and Pitchfork who dubbed both the lead single “HELLRAISER” (feat. OsamaSon) and the album as Best New Music. The album’s impact extended through the end of the year, landing on Best Albums of the Year lists from Rolling StonePitchforkPASTEStereogum, and The FADER. The long-awaited album builds on the momentum of last year’s breakout project, Sayso Says, and finds Che expanding on his signature chaotic electro-rage-rap sound, pushing it into even wilder, more aggressive and distorted territory. Moving between playful melodies and punishing, bass-heavy rhythms, REST IN BASS lives up to its aptly chosen title, serving as Che‘s most ambitious solo effort to date. Diving into a much darker sonic direction than its predecessor, REST IN BASS is a nonstop, 18-track mosh pit that explores blown-out, distorted production and varied vocal styles to create an intense, high-octane atmosphere. “I just want to be a real rockstar for this album”, Che told The FADER earlier this year.

Arriving on the heels of his performance at Lyrical Lemonade‘s Summer Smash, where he popped out with North West, as well as his run earlier this year opening for SahBabii on the Resurrection Tour, the arrival of REST IN BASS served as the culmination of the momentum that Che had been building throughout 2024 and into 2025. Preceded by a run of well-received singles, including “Green Day” (5M+ Streams), the kaleidoscopic “Love (MKB)” (6M+ Streams), and January’s “Pose For The Pic” (10M+ Streams), which arrived with an Instagram-exclusive video, REST IN BASS is the long-awaited follow-up to his debut album Sayso Says, released independently last August alongside a Lyrical Lemonade-directed video for “I Rot, I Rot.” (13M+ Streams). Officially signalling the next chapter for Che, an artist with a singular, futuristic vision and a true cult following both online and in the real world, REST IN BASS: ENCORE is out now, capping off a dynamic breakthrough year.

With the release of REST IN BASS in July and now REST IN BASS: ENCOREChe has transitioned his early takeover of SoundCloud and TikTok into an influential, forward-thinking take on “rage rap”, positioning him as the leader of this new generation of Internet rappers.
