A Free Program by Jonah Sanders | Powered by New Nubian
In cities across America, gang culture continues to claim young lives—not just through violence, but through lost potential. The Gang Awareness Project, created by Jonah Sanders under the New Nubian platform, is a free, community-centered initiative designed to educate, intervene, and empower. It’s not built on theory—it’s built on truth.
📉 The Crisis by the Numbers
– Over 30,000 gangs operate in the U.S., according to the National Gang Center.
– Youth as young as 10 years old are being recruited.
– Black and Latino youth are disproportionately targeted, often due to systemic poverty, trauma, and lack of opportunity.
– Gang involvement increases the risk of incarceration, school dropout, and early death, while destabilizing families and entire communities.
These aren’t just statistics—they’re stories. And the Gang Awareness Project is here to change the narrative.
🧠 From the Streets to Strategy: A Life Reclaimed
The Gang Awareness Project was created by Jonah Sanders, a recognized gang awareness educator and program architect who brings more than credentials—he brings lived experience.
Raised in East Orange and Newark, New Jersey, communities long impacted by gang violence, Sanders was immersed in the realities of street life from a young age. After spending two decades incarcerated, surrounded by gang culture and its consequences, he built deep relationships with those inside the life—and began to understand the psychology, pain, and patterns that fuel it.
That insight became the foundation for the Gang Awareness Project: a program not built from judgment, but from empathy, education, and evolution.
“I’ve seen what gangs do from the inside. I’ve seen who they take. That’s why I built this—for the ones still trying to find a way out.”
— Jonah Sanders, Gang Awareness Educator & Founder of New Nubian
