Ovrkast. is a songwriter, lyricist, and producer from East Oakland, California. A product of the Bay Area’s eclectic artistry, he is reshaping the region’s niche rap sound with an ethereal, laid-back approach. He has produced music for a diverse range of artists and has collaborated with Drake, Earl Sweatshirt, MAVI, redveil, Pink Siifu, Cardo, Demahjiae, Michael Sneed, Nimsins, and many others.
Oakland rapper and producer Ovrkast. has just released his long-awaited sophomore album WHILE THE IRON IS HOT — out now via IIIXL Studio. WHILE THE IRON IS HOT arrives alongside an accompanying music video for “Strange Ways” (feat. Vince Staples), an energetic outing that finds two of the West Coast’s most beloved wordsmiths trading tongue-in-cheek bars (“You got strange ways”) over the track’s bouncy instrumental. The 13-track album also boasts features from MAVI, Samara Cyn, and Malaya, as well as Saba, who Ovrkast. will be opening for this summer on his headlining The Big Picture Tour. WHILE THE IRON IS HOT follows recent singles “I’M ON”, which arrived alongside a comedic video featuring the rapper’s alter ego, Lil Tanner, as well as “SMALL TALK” (feat. Samara Cyn), which was lauded by Billboard, Rolling Stone, and more. Stamping his first full-length album in over five years, WHILE THE IRON IS HOT is a project that manages to feel refreshingly modern, yet also harkens back to the sample-based production and lyric-centric approach that defined hip-hop’s golden age. The release follows a strong 2024 year that saw him link with Grammy-winning super producer Cardo for their collab tape KAST GOT WINGS, open for MAVI on his headlining shadowbox tour — and even freestyle with Lupe Fiasco during an appearance on Sway In The Morning.
Hailed for his jazz-influenced production style, Ovrkast. has made a name for himself as one of the new faces of Bay Area hip-hop for his meditative lyricism and genre-revitalizing sound. After first making waves with his 2020 debut solo album Try Again, he released six-track project RESET! in 2023, which featured “TBH!”, his biggest song to date, and also made a standout appearance alongside MAVI on Charlotte rapper MESSIAH!‘s “silent heel” last summer. He’s also recently netted production credits for the likes of Drake (“Red Button“ and “The Shoe Fits”), Earl Sweatshirt (“EL TORO COMBO MEAL”), redveil (“automatic”), and MAVI (“Chiasma” and “Reason”).
With an emphasis on minimalism and jazzy, sample-based experimentation, he continues to evolve his sonic identity. His sophomore album WHILE THE IRON IS HOT is out now via IIIXL Studio.
