With lush melodies and a fearless, heartfelt pen, 3x JUNO Award winner Savannah Ré is carving out her own lane in R&B, leaving a lasting mark on Toronto’s vibrant music scene. She has co-signs from her mentor, Grammy-Award winning producer Boi-1da, plus legends like Babyface, Timbaland, Coco Jones, SZA, and more. Entering the next phase of her career as an independent artist, Savannah makes a glorious return to herself personally and sonically with Formed, her new project out now via Matrimony Records! Formed finds Savannah embracing herself as an ever-evolving woman, creating a moody, deeply personal, and meticulously curated body of work that feels like reading her diary set to atmospheric production.
A continued theme from 2022’s No Weapons EP, Formed draws inspiration from her mother’s favorite Bible verse: “No weapon formed against you shall prosper.” Reflecting her evolution with new clarity, confidence, and resilience, Formed isn’t about reaching a final form — it’s a celebration and reaffirmation that she’s present and her future has yet to be written. “Formed was initially going to be the Part II, to my last EP “No Weapons” then my life completely changed in so many ways! I became completely independent and began walking a completely different path,” Savannah says. “In a serendipitous way, Formed grew into something completely its own. The project is about the journey and all the imperfect nuances of becoming who you’re supposed to be, in a light and triumphant way.”
Across the 11-track EP, Savannah puts her vocal chops and songwriting expertise on full display, showcasing a fresh, unapologetic approach to her artistry. On tracks like the opener “Bodies” and closing “Made It Out,” she floats over soft acoustic guitar riffs and fleeting synths to express her most introspective thoughts about love, self-worth, and personal growth. For every somber moment on the project, there’s an outright banger to follow – cue the bouncy, Boi-1da-produced highlight “Go ‘Head,” the perfect anthem to kick off the summer gatherings. The project is also home to singles like the February-released “Glory,” “Nine Lives” released earlier this month, and “Sex With My Ex,” which was sampled by Drake on his 100Gigs website. Earlier this week, Savannah previewed new music from Formed in her On The Radar performance, leaving fans clamoring for its release.
Since her breakout with 2020’s Opia, Savannah Ré has built an impressive legacy, collaborating with Babyface, Normani, Jessie Reyez, and Wondagurl, while racking up nominations for the SOCAN Songwriting Prize and Polaris Music Prize — and making history as the first artist to win the JUNO for Traditional R&B/Soul Recording of the Year, earning three wins in a row with “Solid,” “24 hrs,” and “Last One” featuring Dylan Sinclair. With her forthcoming effort, Savannah Ré stands firmly in her evolution, offering a glimpse of an artist who knows exactly where she’s headed and moving forward with purpose, one song at a time.
