Gonzo’s artistic story begins in California, where he was raised on a blend of Spanish traditions at home and powerful hip-hop vibrations outside of it. “There was a frequency in West Coast music that just hit diferent,” he says. “Rodney O & Joe Cooley, tracks like ‘It Takes Two’—those were the songs that opened my spirit to music.”
By the time he hit high school, he’d already relocated to Vallejo and was fully immersed in the Bay Area’s creative energy. Influences came not just from the music, but from the people who believed in his voice before the world caught on. One of them was Deno Brown, a close friend and creative supporter who showed up to shoots, encouraged his hustle, and helped build the foundation Gonzo stands on today.
A life-altering accident and the desire to raise a family prompted Gonzo’s move to Germany—a decision that forced him to choose between comfort and growth. He chose growth. “I left everything behind and committed to raising my son,” he shares. “But even in a new country, I couldn’t ignore the music. It was always there.”
Navigating Germany’s music scene was anything but easy. The market leaned heavily toward East Coast influences, and Gonzo often found himself as one of the only West Coast voices in the room. Language barriers and cultural resistance added another layer of challenge—but never enough to stop him.
With little access to studio resources, Gonzo took matters into his own hands. In 2024, he bought his own recording equipment and learned how to use Logic Pro by studying others and teaching himself. “I had to figure it out,” he says. “The music was piling up inside me, and Ineeded a way to let it out.”
And he did. Through collaborations with local German artists and international producers—including talent from Russia—Gonzo created a new, hybrid sound. Still West Coast at its core, but marked by global textures and fresh grit. Even while living abroad, Gonzo never lost sight of his identity. His lyrics still reflect the reality of life as a person of color, a father, and an artist who’s witnessed violence, grief, and injustice—but who chooses survival and evolution as his response.
“There’s a lot I haven’t been able to say, especially when I was overseas with limited time to record and limited outlets to share,” he says. “But I’ve never switched up. I’ve just kept moving forward.”
That movement is at the heart of his latest release, Motion, a music video that captures not just sonic momentum, but spiritual resilience. With a growing international fanbase and a catalog that spans cultures and experiences, Gonzo is gearing up for his most expansive chapter yet. New music. More collaborations. And a message that stays as clear as ever: keep going.
