Over the last month, he has shared snippets of the song on social media, fueling widespread excitement for its release. His posts have cumulatively generated millions of views, meeting the anticipation head-on, he officially delivers the song now.
On the track, introspective verses laced with dreamy guitar give way to waves of distortion. Projecting his voice as loudly as possible straight from the heart, emotion overflows during the instantly chantable chorus as he wonders, “Darling, I never feel stars are aligning. Here comes the sun. Should we fight it? Where do we go when the night ends?” The lyric video matches this emotion and energy. Under the shadow of a Washington mountain range, he walks through a field and along a lonely highway as he belts out these words into a handheld microphone.
About the song, he commented, “In high-school, I went to a Homecoming dance with this girl that was my friend. I had never had feelings for her until the night of the dance. I remember being on the gym floor with her and the DJ playing all of the throwback songs. The intimacy of holding one another’s hand and looking in her eyes made my heart race. When we finally finished having our first dance, I realized how much I actually liked her and wanted to spend more time with her. That realization that you are falling for them is so nerve racking and is something that so many people experience. “When The Night Ends” speaks to that moment when you first catch feelings for someone and have that initial spark. Moments like that are so rare, and I wanted to capture all those feelings in this song.”
