Detroit artist Valid has returned with a new single, titled “May 6th”. Guided by the mentorship of Grammy Award-winning DJ Head, emerging from the vibrant hip-hop landscape of Detroit, Valid stands as a formidable emcee. Following the 2019 release of his acclaimed debut album Mihajlo, Valid poured his soul into the Plum Brandy EP, notable for an influx in streams from Eastern and Southern Europe. The next chapter in Valid’s expansion was an alliance with another Detroit native: the legendary Stretch Money, joining forces to form the collaborative duo Bill & Isiah. Together they scored an esteemed album that led them not only to local attention, but widespread recognition, charting on college radio stations across the United States and Canada. For his latest offering, Valid links with Montenegrin staples Knowhere2run and Vibin wit DJ Mono on the production to celebrate and pay homage to his Balkan roots with a song that references the Eastern European holiday of Djurdjevdan (translated as St. George’s Day), which falls on May 6th.
“May 6th” contains engaging, organic-tinged production containing warm guitar strums, elegant backing vocals, and a punchy, raw rhythm section. Valid himself shines on the mic, with a succinct focus and ability to expand vividly on the track’s themes. His confident delivery cuts through and demands attention, building into a dynamic hook that provides much character to the track.
Alongside the release of “May 6th”, Valid also appeared in the recent Detroit Tigers jersey reveal video alongside Eminem, Stretch Money, and more. Further cementing Valid’s status in Detroit’s music scene, he graces the stage alongside Stretch Money advertising the new and updated Detroit Tigers jersey.
