Savannah Judy was Born to Perform

Savannah Judy is a multi-hyphenate performer. As both an actress and singer/songwriter in the Indie Rock duo Duplexity she has herself firmly planted in both the acting and music world. It seems everything Savannah does turns to gold! As an actress she has worked with the likes of Val Kilmer and Nicole Kidman, and since diving into the music world with her brother in their band Duplexity, she is one of the fastest growing independent young artists on the streaming platforms. Savannah is most fulfilled when she is entertaining others whether on the big screen or on rocking out on the stage. Please enjoy this in depth interview with the delightful Savannah Judy.

1. As an actor you have been in numerous projects. How do you prepare for a role?

I prepare for a role many different ways, and depending on which character I am playing I will use different methods. The number one way I like to prepare is by getting in the mindset of the character before my audition/part. I usually like to think about how she would walk, talk, engage with other people..etc. I also ask myself a lot of questions about my character so I can get really specific. Such as, what is her favorite hobby, food, place, and many other specific details about life. I’m not necessarily a method actor, but, I still love to create that world for my character to reside in. For one of my roles I had, the character had a southern accent, which took some time and practice to get it down even though I’m from the south. I just love to be fully prepared for my roles so I can have a blast when I’m acting!

2. How much rehearsal time is there between getting the script and shooting the film?

How much rehearsal time getting the script and shooting the film definitely depends on the production/ location/ who’s in charge. I’ve had shoots where I booked the film and it shot the next week and then others where I had a full month or even more to prepare. It also depends on the part too. I’d say the average amount of time that I have been given is about a month or a few weeks, which is plenty of time for me!

3. What do you love most about acting?

What I love most about acting is how fun it is for me. Whenever I get an audition or I am playing a role, I always get super excited because I really enjoy the entire process. From getting the script, to analysis, to preparation, to filming. I also love making characters unique to myself and my essence and bringing the words of the page to life.

4. What’s the craziest thing that has ever happened on set?

The craziest thing that has ever happened on set was when I was filming “A Soldier’s Revenge” and in between scenes, Val Kilmer, who was playing our grandfather, said the funniest thing. My brother and I were waiting for action and he came over to us and said, “Which one of you should I gobble up first.” Then, I jokingly pushed Luke in front of me. We laughed for a couple of minutes and then continued shooting. Also, on the same set, I was riding one of the horses during a scene, and they were filming us on them. I accidentally kicked the horse a little too hard and it went running for the hills with me and Luke on it. It was so funny because everyone was running after us trying to get the shot. Filming that movie was such a blast.

5. You are also half of the Indie Rock duo Duplexity. What do you hope people will           take away from listening to your music?

For me, I want people to listen to our music and really get a kick out of it. I like to picture driving in the car, turning on the radio, hearing ‘Black Dress’ and just car head banging like crazy. I want our music to inspire and uplift people, and make them have a really good time. In the end, we are doing this to entertain people!

6. If you had to choose between acting or making music, which would you choose            and  why?

I really can’t choose between the both because they are both a huge part of my life. I’ve been acting for more than 10 years now, but I’ve also been involved with music for a long time too. I love music and creating feelings from notes and lyrics, but I also love creating feelings from scripts too. Music and acting go hand in hand and having the ability to combine the two has been really great for me.

7. What are your goals for 2024?

My goals for 2024 are mostly Duplexity based. I want to release more music, which we will be soon. I want to write more songs and I want to play a ton of shows because performing on stage is so soul fulfilling. I also would love to collaborate with other artists and make music together!
