Luke Judy is an actor and singer/ songwriter best known as half of the Indie Rock duo Duplexity. Known to their fans for their relatable lyrics and rock ‘n’ roll sounds, Dupexity is quickly becoming one of the hottest bands in Los Angeles. While Luke has some impressive acting credits, he finds himself being drawn deeper into the music. Luke took time out of the studio for this interview about his acting career and his first love which is music.
1. As an actor you have been in numerous projects. How do you prepare for a role?
First thing I need to do when preparing for an audition is read the breakdown. The breakdown is basically who the character is and important details about the character that you need to know before reading the script. Second thing I do is analyze the script and be so familiar with it that I can almost do the whole scene in my sleep.
2. How much rehearsal time is there between getting the script and shooting the film?
When you get the script after you booked the job it really depends how long it’s going to be until you start shooting. Usually when the auditioning process goes really fast then the shooting time will be quick too. Most of the time you have about a month or two to get all ready for being on set, but sometimes you only have three weeks!
3. What do you love most about acting?
My favorite thing about acting is being on set. There is no better feeling than actually being on set and watching the magic happen. You learn so much and gain a ton of experience just by being on set. Also it is a ton of fun hanging out and getting to know the other actors!
4. What’s the craziest thing that has ever happened on set?
The craziest thing that’s ever happened on set has to be when I was in this pen of pigs when I was shooting the TV show “Criminal Minds”. The pigs were massive, I didn’t even know pigs could grow that big! Whatever those pigs were eating was definitely making them huge. There were about 6 of them and in the scene one of the pigs had to run towards me and I had to Jump back and hug the wall of the pen. Overall one of the craziest experiences ever!
5. You are also half of the Indie Rock due Duplexity. What do you hope people will take away from listening to your music?
I hope people will feel inspired listening to our music. We wanted to make music that hopefully everyone would relate to and bring out positivity in people! We just want to brighten people’s day with our music and put them in a better mood.
6. If you had to choose between acting or making music, which would you choose and why?
If I were to choose between making music and acting, I would have to choose making music. In my opinion making music is much more creative and much more inspiring to me. Being in the studio and experimenting with different musical ideas and writing different riffs on my guitar is so fun and I could do it for days on end.
7. What are your goals for 2024?
My main goal for 2024 is to make more music. Writing music is a massive hobby of mine. Whenever I’m not busy or working that is what I’m doing. In 2023 is when I started dipping my toe into the songwriting world but now in 2024 I know much more about music theory and songwriting in general, I’m super stoked to see what we can accomplish this year!
