Interview with Author KC: Personal Transformation and Resilience in Chaos I: In the Shadows and Chaos II: Road to Recovery

Interview by Limitless Magazine | Featuring Author KC

Limitless Magazine: KC, thank you for joining us. Your two-part book series, Chaos I: In the Shadows and Chaos II: Road to Recovery, has resonated with many readers. Can you tell us about the journey that led you to write these books?

KC: Thank you for having me. The journey to writing Chaos I: In the Shadows and Chaos II: Road to Recovery started one night after therapy. I was sitting alone in my living room when I heard the voice of the Most High telling me that it was time to share my story. Writing Chaos I allowed me to confront my inner demons, and through that process, I began to understand why it’s so important to know who you are as a person. Purchase on Amazon

Therapy played a crucial role in this journey. It helped me see how the pain and anger from my childhood had affected my relationships. I didn’t know any better because the chaos I grew up in became my normal. But as I worked through therapy, I realized that my parents were just doing the best they could with what they knew. This helped me acknowledge my mistakes as a parent and motivated me to do better for my wife and children. It also gave me the drive to break the generational curse that had haunted my family for years. Writing Chaos II: Road to Recovery was about showing the transition from hitting rock bottom—facing years in prison—to finding grace and another chance at life.

Limitless Magazine: The titles of your books suggest a significant transformation. Could you explain the significance of these titles and how they relate to the content of your books?

KC: The titles reflect the journey from chaos to healing. Chaos I: In the Shadows represents the hidden struggles, unresolved trauma, and the darkness that many of us carry inside. The shadows symbolize the pain and chaos we often avoid confronting. Chaos II: Road to Recovery represents the path to healing and transformation. It’s about stepping out of the shadows, facing the trauma head-on, and finding a way to move forward. The titles encapsulate the journey of transformation from chaos to peace.

Limitless Magazine: What motivated you to pursue a path to healing and recovery?

KC: My motivation came from therapy and my desire to learn how to love from the heart. Growing up, I was taught that love was shown through discipline and violence, but therapy showed me how to communicate, build healthy boundaries, and understand others. I also learned to be my own advocate, especially when it came to dealing with doctors and medications. After years of misdiagnosis and being on the wrong medication, I realized that I had to take control of my own health. That experience empowered me to never be afraid to speak up for myself. My advice to anyone seeking to get healthier is to prioritize therapy, self-care, forgiveness, and always advocate for yourself.

Limitless Magazine: Were there personal experiences that played a significant role in your decision to write about these topics?

KC: Yes, absolutely. My books are filled with personal experiences and realizations that guided me on this path. One of the key turning points was learning to trust the Most High again and leaning on Him to help me turn my life around. Forgiveness was another big realization—not just for those who hurt me, but also for myself. Writing these books allowed me to reflect on my journey, break down the walls I had built to protect myself, and finally learn who truly had my back.

Limitless Magazine: In Chaos I: In the Shadows, you explore the concept of chaos. How do you define chaos, and why is it important to understand it when embarking on a journey of personal transformation?

KC: For me, chaos is rooted in the trauma I endured as a child—the lies, violence, secrets, and fear. I was taught to keep everything that happened at home a secret, which was just a way to protect the abuser. This chaos created a toxic environment that shaped my worldview. Understanding this chaos is crucial for personal transformation because you need to confront the root of your struggles before you can heal. Therapy was essential in helping me untangle that chaos and start the recovery process.

Limitless Magazine: Your books blend personal storytelling with self-help. How did you strike a balance between sharing your experiences and providing actionable advice to your readers?

KC: The balance came from being open and honest about my journey. I believe that people often hide their pain out of fear of judgment, but I wanted to show that it’s okay to be vulnerable and share your story. Once you accept who you are and love yourself, life becomes easier, and no one can use your past against you. By being transparent, I was able to share both personal insights and practical advice.

Limitless Magazine: Could you share some of the key principles or strategies you advocate for in Chaos II: Road to Recovery for individuals seeking personal transformation?

KC: Some of the key principles I advocate for include forgiving yourself, creating healthy boundaries, and staying away from toxic people—even if they are family. It’s okay to love people from a distance if it means protecting your well-being. I also emphasize the importance of self-advocacy, especially when it comes to your health. Never be afraid to speak up for yourself and seek the care you need. These principles helped me in my own recovery and can be valuable for others on their journey.

Limitless Magazine: Chaos II: Road to Recovery suggests a path to recovery. What kind of recovery are you referring to, and how does it connect with the chaos explored in the first book?

KC: The recovery I’m referring to is about healing from trauma and learning to live a healthy, peaceful life. Chaos I: In the Shadows explores the chaotic experiences and trauma that shaped me as a child. Chaos II: Road to Recovery is about addressing those unresolved issues and finding a way forward. The two books are interconnected—one represents the chaos, and the other represents the recovery from that chaos.

Limitless Magazine: Transformation often involves overcoming challenges and setbacks. Can you share an example from your life that illustrates the importance of resilience during the transformation process?

KC: One of the biggest challenges I faced was seeking help while dealing with a twenty-year to life prison sentence. I was blessed that my wife and children stood by me, even when I had let them down. It took a lot of resilience to rebuild my relationships and find faith again. Through resilience, I was able to regain joy in my life, become a published author, and help others along the way. Perseverance is key to any transformation process.

Limitless Magazine: Many people struggle with maintaining motivation during personal transformation. What advice do you offer in your books to help readers stay committed to their journey?

KC: My advice is to do it for yourself. If you’re trying to transform for someone else, it won’t work. You have to want it for yourself. It’s also important to remove toxic people from your life and create a support system you can trust. Setting boundaries and staying out of situations that could lead you back to old habits is essential. Recovery is a daily process, and commitment is key.

Limitless Magazine: Chaos I: In the Shadows may be seen as the beginning of transformation. What can readers expect when transitioning into Chaos II: Road to Recovery, and how do the two books complement each other?

KC: Chaos I: In the Shadows shows the early stages of my life, filled with confusion, anger, and rebellion. It’s about a young person struggling with chaos and trying to find their way. Chaos II: Road to Recovery is about finding inner peace and healing. The two books complement each other by showing the journey from darkness to light, from chaos to recovery.

Limitless Magazine: How do you envision readers benefiting from your books, and what impact do you hope to have on their lives?

KC: I hope my readers find peace of mind and realize that change is possible. I want to inspire people to change their mindsets and understand that mental health challenges don’t define their potential for success. My goal is to leave a lasting impact that encourages people to embrace their differences, find their path to healing, and live healthy, fulfilling lives.

Limitless Magazine: Finally, can you share any upcoming projects or plans related to personal transformation or self-help that you’re currently working on?

KC: Right now, I’m still promoting Chaos I: In the Shadows and Chaos II: Road to Recovery, which are available online at Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Walmart, and other retailers. I’m also planning some public speaking events with book clubs and mental health organizations. Additionally, I’m excited to launch my podcast, The Road to Recovery Podcast, on YouTube. I’m also working on a few new books that I hope to share soon.
