Indie alternative musician Peter McPoland has just shared a dark, yet danceable new single entitled “Turn Off The Noise” today. The up-tempo track heralds the release of his anxiously awaited second full-length LP, Piggy, on August 11, 2023 via Columbia Records.
The song co-mingles future-facing production with a timeless chorus. Its unabashedly eighties post-punk soundscape gives goth vibes with a glorious hook, illuminating yet another facet of his vision. The accompanying video represents how noise, internally and externally, can heavily affect us and create resistance and chaos. The sound gets so strong and intense that Peter starts to bleed from within.
Piggy also boasts the recent anthems “Blue” and “Digital Silence,” the latter of which emerged as his biggest first-week single launch to date. Thus far, it has accumulated nearly 15 Million streams globally to date, bringing his monthly listenership on Spotify to the highest of his career at over 2.2 Million.
Taking the new material on the road, he revealed to fans this week that he will be going on a fall headline tour across North America, with dates and more information to follow soon.
The origin of Piggy proved to be as messy and triumphant as the music itself. Shaking off nearly a year of writer’s block, Peter embarked on a road trip in 2022. Afterwards, while holed up at a friend’s house, he wrote and recorded for two weeks in a mini-studio before decamping to a low-key Austin, TX motel. In his room, he maximized a rush of inspiration – writing, recording, playing every instrument, and producing the bulk of what would become Piggy.
About the title and a key theme, he revealed, “I like weird stuff that makes people think. It’s uneasy, but it’s cool. I have a group chat with a bunch of tight friends from high school called Lord of the Flies. One character in the book is named Piggy. He gets his head crushed by as boulder. Between the divorce and thee block, it was a shitty year, so I felt like Piggy.”
