Lil Derik’s new EP Red Dragon contains three songs, but each one moves with the weight and clarity of someone who has spent years learning how to be heard. He grew up on the South Side of St. Louis, a place that shapes you in ways you carry long after you leave. By day, he teaches, coaches, keeps routines steady. By night, he turns those same streets and experiences into music, sculpting them into words that feel lived-in, reflective, and unshakably real.
His story is written in steps as much as in tracks. High school cyphers, the collective More Than Music, Mizzou, and the quietly legendary Huey vs. Riley: The Mixtape– each phase built the foundation for a voice that is confident, patient, and deeply observant. Over time, he amassed albums, collaborations, EPs, and singles, each one sharpening his craft, culminating in 2025’s Enter The Dragon. With Red Dragon, he leans into intimacy, giving listeners a chance to hear him in a concentrated, reflective space.
The EP opens with “Buick Lesabre,” a track that drifts like a smooth, warm ride. Lil Derik’s flow rests on soft loops and textures, letting his memories, thoughts, and quiet swagger spill naturally into the space between beats. “Fall In Love” shifts the energy outward- wide, open, soulful, a track that balances confidence with vulnerability, letting his words land with a natural sway. And “Til Death Do Us Part” closes the EP like a slow crescendo, his lyricism sharpened and reflective, the production swelling just enough to carry the weight of the story he’s telling.
Lil Derik’s Red Dragon is music that wants to sit with you, to linger, to make you notice the spaces in between the words. Lil Derik’s pen is precise, his delivery effortless, and his heart unmistakably present. Red Dragon captures an artist who knows himself, who knows his roots, and who knows exactly where he wants to go next.
