BabyChiefDoit Drops ‘Warning Shot’ EP

Hailing from Chicago’s South Side, BabyChiefDoit has been making moves since the release of his breakout single, “Pancakes & Drugs”, (23M+ Streams) last year. Emerging from the city’s vibrant underground, his music speaks to the struggles and triumphs of his upbringing, with themes of survival, loyalty, and ambition resonating throughout his tracks. Drawing inspiration from drill pioneers like Chief Keef and the chaotic energy of Waka Flocka FlameBabyChiefDoit blends aggressive flows with a youthful, unfiltered perspective to bring a fresh take to his city’s historic scene. His breakthrough culminated in the release of his 2024 debut mixtape, ANIMALS ONLY, a 12-track exploration of Chicago drill’s evolution that was quickly met with critical acclaim from Pitchfork. Despite his rapid ascent, BabyChiefDoit remains grounded, balancing his burgeoning career with high school commitments –– and showing a sense of work ethic that has established him as a legitimate breakout star in 2025.

On the heels of his first-ever sold-out headlining show at Chicago’s Avondale Hall, Chicago phenom BabyChiefDoit has just released his first EP of 2025, WARNING SHOT — out now via APG. At just five tracks, the aptly-titled project serves as a teaser to his highly-anticipated forthcoming debut album, as he bounces between 2000’s Lil Jon-era Snap production on “ATTITUDE PROBLEMS” with Bronx super-producer CashCobain, samples ’90s-era R&B on “THE WHOLE WORLD ZOO”, and falls back into his beloved aggressive Chicago trap flows on “THE WOOD”“HOW YA DOIN”, and “CLOUD 9”. The project arrives just two weeks before his supporting slot for Key Glock at the historic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado, alongside SahBabii and Chuckyy (get tickets HERE) — a concert that will cap off a breakthrough year for BabyChief following last month’s Mafiathon 3 x On The Radar freestyle and a strong run of releases that includes his viral self-produced single “WENT WEST” (90M+ Streams), its subsequent Genius Open Mic performance, “Mr. President” (4M+ Streams), and July’s Lyrical Lemonade Lunch Break Freestyle. After being named one of COMPLEX‘s 25 Rappers To Watch In 2025 in January, BabyChiefDoit has spent the rest of the year living up to the title. He was subsequently selected as a 2025 XXL Freshman, performed at Summer Smash in his hometown of Chicago (where he premiered his viral track “WENT WEST”, leading to his debut on the Billboard charts, where it peaked at #71 on the Hot 100). Last month, he was also featured on “Drapetomania” (5M+ Streams) off of Chance the Rapper‘s STAR LINE album, and was crowned as Billboard‘s September Hip-Hop Rookie of the Month. Through it all, BabyChiefDoit has proved he’s more than just a student of drill, he embodies the genre, making it a part of his identity and is carrying the torch for the new generation of Chicago Hip-Hop.

With a steady stream of energetic releases and unfiltered lyricism, BabyChiefDoit has quickly made a name for himself within his city and beyond. Early singles like “The Viper” (120M+ Streams), “6ix Times 2Day” (30M+ Streams), and “Snooze You Lose” (40M+ Streams) laid the groundwork for his grassroots following, drawing attention to his unique sound that bridges the gap between Chicago drill and Southern trap. Tracks like “Look Up” and “EBGDITB” (35M+ Streams) off his 2024 debut mixtape, ANIMALS ONLY, demonstrate his ability to blend chaotic beats with relentless, pedal-to-the-metal raps, while songs like “Drowned” add a layer of emotional depth through his sing-rap delivery. His creative approach, from his apocalyptic beats to his lyrical rawness, have led to collabs with the likes of PlaqueBoyMax and Nino Paid on “Cooln” (24M+ Streams) and Baby Kia for “NEW AGE YN”. As he continues to build his name, BabyChiefDoit is bringing the sound of Chicago to a global audience while staying true to his roots in the process.
