Red Bull Dance Your Style is an international all-styles dance competition with a unique battle format. Inviting top dancers of all backgrounds to battle 1:1, the competition challenges dancers to ‘wow’ the crowd and ultimately win their vote. With no panel of judges, no planned choreography, and no pre-selected music, dancers are put to a test of freestyle and musicality skills, with the crowd deciding who rules the dance floor.
On Saturday, August 23, international street dance competition, Red Bull Dance Your Style, wrapped its 2025 U.S. season in San Francisco with the USA National Final. The event marked the finale of a nationwide series of nearly 20 qualifier events, spotlighting dance communities across the country, culminating in the Bay Area, one of the most influential dance hubs in the world.
Sixteen of the nation’s top dancers, including regional champions and wildcard competitors, went head-to-head in front of a live crowd at SVN West. With no panel of judges, no planned choreography, and no pre-selected music, each round tested dancers’ freestyle mastery, musicality, and stage presence. The crowd’s vote determined every battle, culminating in a high-energy final round where SonLam emerged as the 2025 Red Bull Dance Your Style U.S. National Champion.
SonLam will now advance to theRed Bull Dance Your Style World Final, set to make its U.S. debut at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles on October 11, 2025, competing against dancers from around the globe for the ultimate crown.
The evening was hosted by renowned choreographer Charm La’Donna and Bay Area icon Sway Calloway, with a special performance by Oakland rap legend Too $hort, celebrating the Bay Area’s deep ties to street dance and hip-hop culture.
SonLam is a Red Bull Dance Your Style vet with multiple titles under his belt. The two-time Red Bull Dance Your Style USA National Champion also claimed the Red Bull Dance Your Style Oakland Regional Champion in 2022. The Vietnamese-born dancer has mastered a dynamic fusion of popping and hip-hop that defines his unique battle style and distinguished him as a back-to-back national champion.
“With [this second win] I felt the growth in myself. Each time I stepped on stage, I didn’t feel nervous. I just wanted to share this love of dance. I’m not against my opponent. I’m here to uplift them,” shared SonLam.
2025 Red Bull Dance Your Style U.S. National Runner-Up Sean Lew is an LA native of Chinese, Japanese, and Mongolian descent. He has built a multifaceted career as a dancer, choreographer, actor, filmmaker, chef, and creative director, appearing on NBC’s World of Dance and starred in a lead role on FOX’s The Cleaning Lady. As a dancer, Sean is celebrated not only for his technical skill and versatility, but also for his originality and storytelling.
Reflecting on his experience, Sean shared, “I feel very lucky to have been in the finals. Coming from my background, I’m lucky to even be on this floor with all these incredible dancers and I’m honored that I got to truly give it my all on this floor.”
