Boston’s hard-hitting Third Knuckle returns today with their newest single, “Anchor,” out now on all platforms along with an official music video. Raw, melodic, and emotionally wired, the track digs deep into the internal weight we carry — and what it means to break free from it.
While the band is known for their heavy live presence and unfiltered sound, “Anchor” hits on a more reflective note. It’s a song that took time to piece together, but in doing so, became one of the group’s most emotionally resonant offerings to date.
“This song started as a few different pieces of music,” says vocalist Ed, reflecting on the writing process. “A riff, a melody, and a bridge. Then they were all constructed into a song structure. The band did not hear what I was going to do until that very day during our recording session.”
That spontaneous reveal added fuel to the band’s dynamic in the studio, amplified further by the trusted hand of their longtime producer.
“It evolved organically,” Ed says. “Plus, our producer is like the sixth member of the band. He really gets involved with the arrangements.”
Lyrically, “Anchor” pulls from a personal place — less about one specific moment and more about a mental state many can relate to.
“I was just feeling stuck in a writing rut, really,” Ed shares. “I don’t like trying to force the process if it’s not organic. I walk away to revisit it another day. Other times it comes in one session. This song took a while to find all the right parts and lyrics.”
The theme of the track stretches beyond songwriting, tapping into the broader metaphor of anchors in life — what holds us down, what keeps us still, and what sometimes forces us to stay put until we’re ready to move.
“There are many anchors in life,” Ed says. “But the most important one is your heart, so make sure it’s in the right place before you cast it.”
