Cementing his status as one of the most compelling new voices in Latin music, breakout Mexican-American singer-songwriter Xavi was named Composer of the Year at the 2025 ASCAP Latin Music Awards, last night in Los Angeles. At just 20 years old, Xavi made history as the youngest-ever recipient of the prestigious honor — a defining milestone in a breakthrough year for the young phenom, one that has reshaped the sound and global reach of Música Mexicana.
The honor recognizes Xavi’s powerful, emotionally resonant songwriting, which propelled hits like the chart-topping “La Diabla” and fan-favorite “La Víctima” to streaming and radio dominance. Both singles were key drivers of his critically acclaimed debut album My Mom’s Playlist, a genre-blurring project that fused traditional Mexican elements with R&B, pop, and urban influences.
“This award is an honor beyond words,” said Xavi. “Every song I write comes from a real place, and to be recognized by ASCAP means the world. Thank you to my family, my fans, my team, and to everyone who listens and finds themselves in my music.”
The ASCAP recognition is the latest achievement in a meteoric rise that has seen Xavi break records and reshape expectations for the genre. “La Diabla” marked his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100, where it held a Top 5 spot for over a month. His music has earned more than 4.8 billion career streams and numerous platinum certifications.
Already in 2025, he has graced the cover of Billboard Magazine, performed at Premio Lo Nuestro, where he won two awards, including Mexican Music New Artist, and took home Best New Artist – Regional Mexican at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, where he was also nominated alongside heavyweights like Peso Pluma for Regional Mexican Artist and Song of the Year. At just 20 years old, Xavi is not only the face of a new era in Música Mexicana, he’s its most defining voice. The ASCAP honor serves as a testament to his artistry and cultural impact.
