Lil Double 0 Drops New EP ‘IOU1’

Hailing from Memphis, Tennessee, 23-year-old Lil Double 0 is the newest burgeoning talent in southern rap. A promising basketball player in his youth, his trajectory shifted following the loss of two close friends –– one to violence and another to incarceration. These events propelled him to channel his experiences into music, beginning his rap career at 18. After releasing his standout hit “Percs Calling” in 2020, Lil Double 0 started to gain significant attention, eventually signing to Future’s Freebandz Label in 2021 and releasing his first mixtape under the label 4K the Streetz later that same year. His music, fueled by his upbringing and laced with a calm demeanor and southern drawl, is carving out a sound that feels both familiar and distinct within Memphis rap.

Following a strong string of singles to start the year, most notably “Money Showers” featuring Lil Gotit and Money Musik Memphis rising star Lil Double 0 has just shared his new EP, IOU1 –– out now. IOU1 is the follow-up to Double 0’s most cohesive project to date, Freebirdz, a 19-track standout album featuring collaborations with some of rap’s heavyweights, including FutureLil Uzi VertG Herbo, LUCKI, and Lil CrixIOU1 marks a shift toward more solo-driven work for the Memphis native, with the project leaning heavily on his signature regional sound and Southern delivery. It features a plethora of soul-infused raps over some of the strongest production he’s touched, with Lil Double 0 handling the majority of the vocal duties without guest appearances. The project builds on the momentum he’s created since signing to Future’s Freebandz label in 2021 as he continues to reinforce his presence as a key figure in the new wave of Southern rap.

Since the start of the 2020s, Memphis has nurtured one of the hottest rap scenes in the country, with Lil Double 0 being an immediate standout. He has carved out a distinct lane in the southern rap scene, fusing raw storytelling with sleek trap production. After signing to Future’s Freebandz label in 2021, the Tennessee native has steadily built one of the most compelling catalogs in underground rap. His 2022 debut Walk Down World  was fueled by standout cuts like “Fight That Switch (Walk)”(feat. EST Gee) and “Who You Killed”. With co-signs and collaborations from labelmate Future on “U Selling Dope” and “Walk Down”, as well as joint tracks with some of southern rap’s heaviest hitters –– Nardo Wick, and Pooh Shiesty –– Double 0 has firmly established himself as one of the South’s fastest-rising voices. In 2024, he released Freebirdz, a mixtape that signaled a new chapter in his artistry, stepping away from feature-heavy records to deliver an almost entirely solo effort that highlights his growth and confidence as a standalone force.
